Website Design

Design

Web-Dog strives to develop the look and feel of a website with the client. It is important that the design reflects their existing business branding.

Our primary concerns
  • Clear and coherent design
  • Content solutions
  • Integrated features

Use your web site to communicate and distribute information.
The internet allows everyone to publish their thoughts and ideas, gives everyone an outlet for their creativity.

Content Management

CMS

Managing your web site can be time consuming. CMS is for those of us who prefer not to get involved with the technical side of the internet and prefer not to have to rely on others to get the job done.
A Content Management System or CMS gives you your independance and the confidence to get on with it and keep your site lively and up to date.

We have several options for CMS:

  • For those on a budget we can provide an 'off-the-peg' CMS which we have developed to go with several of our website designs. These range in price from £250 - £650
  • Or you may require a bespoke CMS to fill particular needs

Training

Training

If a CMS is beyond your budget, and you are confident with a computer, Web-dog can provide you with the training and the tools to enable you to manage your web site.

You need a basic text editor to edit the content, an FTP programme to upload your files to the server and a photoshop programme to resize your images. All these are available as freeware files or 'lite' versions of their proffessional counterpart.
Here are links to some freeware:

  1. Photoshop for managing images Gimp
  2. A text editor Textwrangler
  3. An FTP Programme for uploading files FireFTP or Cyberduck
Slideshows

Slideshows

Slide show 1

This slide show is embedded within the site page - www.waygood.org

Slide show 2

This slide show is full screen, with two examples for different screen resolutions:

Screen resolution: 1024 x 768px
Screen resolution: 1280 x 1024px

The images are fed directly from your web site and can be managed through a Content Management System or uploaded with your FTP software.

For best full screen viewing use the Opera browser and choose - View:Full Screen from the menu bar.
Download Opera here.
Or if you are on a PC press f11 or in IE tools:full screen, Firefox view:full screen (Firefox will not at present work with the Flickr feed below).

Flickr Feed

This slide show is fed directly from the Flickr photo sharing site.
Manage your images through your Flickr account, creating a new set for each slideshow.

Again, use Opera and choose - View:Full Screen from the menu bar for the best full screen experience.
At the moment the Flickr feed does not work in Firefox.

Options for both slideshows include:
  • Vary the speed of the slideshow;
  • Change the rate of fade between the slides;
  • Choose the size of the images;
  • Have full screen or embed the slide show into your current web page design,
    (see www.waygood.org for an example);
  • Have thumbnails, shown as a carousel, to flick between images quickly;
  • Forward and back buttons;
  • Multiple slide shows, perhaps for different portfolios;

Blogging

For a lot of people a blog is the ideal answer for a web site. They are free and easy to manage. There are two main choices - Blogger and Wordpress.
If it is a little overwhelming Web-dog will help you set up your blog and instruct you in how to manage and promote the site. Web-dog can also personalise your blog either through design, to relect your own aesthetic or content - here is an example.

Google Maps

Google Maps

It is amazing what you can do with an internet map nowadays. We have all used Google maps to explore the world around us and find our way through it and now you could bring that functionality to your own site.
This is an example of a map that the registered site users of the website use add markers to to indicate the location of exhibitions.

Search Engine Optimisation

SEO

There are no secrets to getting good rankings in searches. The principle ingredients are a well structured website, research into key words, well written content, regular updates, good networking and promotion (not just on the internet).
